Thomas Barr is one of Ireland’s most respected and widely admired track and field athletes. A three-time Olympian, European Championship medallist, and World Relay medallist, Thomas built his career on consistency, positivity, and performance under pressure.
His 4th place finish in the 400m Hurdles at the Rio 2016 Olympics, setting a new Irish record, remains one of the standout moments in Irish athletics history. He went on to win a European bronze medal (2018) and was a key part of Ireland’s Mixed 4x400m relay team, helping secure World and European medals in 2024.
Thomas holds a Master’s in Sports Science and a degree in Mechanical Engineering, giving him a unique ability to blend performance psychology with technical thinking.
Off the track, Thomas is known for his emotional intelligence and authentic communication style—qualities that have made him a standout presence with both athletes and corporate audiences. Ray Goggins, former special forces leader and star of RTÉ’s Uncharted, described Thomas’s “EQ rate as through the roof”.
His personal interests in water sports, motorsport, and hands-on engineering projects are central to how he manages mental wellbeing and stays energized.
In January 2025, Thomas officially retired from international athletics, opening a new chapter as a speaker, performance consultant, and advocate for mindset and resilience in business and sport.
