European Relay Medalist, Olympian & Irish Record Holder (4x400m Women)
 

Sophie  Becker from New Ross County Wexford is an international 400m athlete and an Olympic, World and European relay finalist.

In 2024 she was part of the Irish women’s 4x400m team who smashed the Irish record and claimed a sensational silver medal at the European Athletics Championships.

 

She has competed individually in the 400m for Ireland at the World and European Championships. Her personal Best of  51.13 seconds set in May 2024, at the Belfast Milers Club is the 5th fastest time recorded by an Irish woman.

 

Sophie has also played a pivotal role in the mixed 4x400m relay team that etched their names in history as the first Irish relay team to reach an Olympic final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

 

She was also a key member of the Irish women’s 4x400m team that not only broke the Irish Record but also secured Olympic Qualification for Paris at the World Relay Championships in May 2024. This team, of which Sophie is a key member has consistently delivered top-class performances at major championships, earning a spot in European and World Finals.  

 

When she is not competing, she enjoys surfing, camping and hiking. She is a graduate of Genetics and Cell Biology (BSc) at DCU.
