Ciara Mageean

European Champion. Olympian. Voice for Resilience and Representation.

Sport – Athletics – Middle Distance (800m, 1500m, Mile)

Ciara Mageean has carved out a unique place in Irish sport as one of the country’s most decorated and relatable middle-distance runners. A European 1500m Champion, two-time Olympian, and multiple Irish record holder across the 800m, 1000m, 1500m, and Mile, Ciara has consistently raised the bar for Irish athletics on the world stage.

Her journey from a small GAA club in Portaferry, Co. Down, to competing at global championships is a story of grit, perseverance, and passion. Overcoming injuries, personal challenges, and high-pressure moments, Ciara has become a national role model—known as much for her honest, emotional post-race interviews as for her performances on the track.
A qualified physiotherapist and lifelong camogie enthusiast, Ciara brings depth and authenticity to every project she’s involved in. She speaks openly about resilience, women in sport, and mental health—making her a powerful voice for young athletes and female leadership across Ireland. Off the track, Ciara is an ambassador for GOAL, the international humanitarian organisation, and for a children’s cancer charity, using her platform to champion global development work and support vulnerable communities both at home and abroad.
She also serves as a Board Member for the SistersIN Leadership Programme, a Northern Ireland-based initiative that empowers and develops female pupils in education to become the leaders of tomorrow—aligning with Ciara’s ongoing commitment to gender equality and youth empowerment.
