Olympic athlete Ciara Mageean is from Portaferry Co.Down. In June 2024, she was crowned the European 1500m champion, adding to the silver she won in 2022 and the bronze she earned at the 2016 European Athletics Championships. Additionally, she clinched a bronze medal at the 2019 European Indoor Championships.
In 2023, Ciara Mageean made a significant mark in her career by finishing an impressive 4th at the World Championships in Budapest. This was not just a personal triumph, but a moment that set a new Irish 1500m record with a time of 3:56.61. Her exceptional performance was further highlighted at the Belgian Diamond League, where she clocked in at 3:55.87. It’s worth noting that Ciara holds the Irish record for the 800m, Mile, and 1000m, as well as the indoor Mile record.
Ciara has been recognized as one of Ireland’s most exceptional middle-distance runners throughout her career. She is admired for her determination, competitive spirit, tactical awareness and outstanding finishing ability.
Beyond her athletic pursuits, Ciara is a qualified physiotherapist, having studied at UCD.
