Sophie Spence

Success: Sophie is an integral part of Ireland’s most successful women’s rugby team ever. She has helped Ireland win two 6 Nations tournament. She was also part of the team that beat New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup. In 2015 she was a nominee for the World Rugby player of the year, RTE sportsperson of the year and was the Guinness Rugby writer’s player of the year.

Talented Player: Forward (Lock), genuine explosive power, ball-carrier, good defender who understands her role within the team

Irish Mum: Originally from Newcastle, UK, Sophie’s mum is from Belfast. She is very proud of her Irish Heritage and proud to play for Ireland.

Multi-Sport: Sophie started playing rugby while in college at the age of 21 but before that she played netball competitively along with a number of other sports.

Coaching Credentials: BSc Sports Coaching Science degree, MSc In Sports Psychology and has a Teaching Certificate

Developing the Sport: Development officer in Tallaght and Clondalkin and currently development officer with DCU. Rugby.   As well as playing rugby, Sophie plans to further roll out her new business Spence Rugby Academy rugby camps across the country to give young girls the opportunity to learn and develop their skills in the sport
